30 Years Celebration of Stoney & Friends
Thirty years of raising money for Macmillan Cancer Support is an amazing milestone. Add to that the fact that, over those three decades, Stoney and Friends has raised more than £720,000, and it has become truly incredible. To mark the anniversary, current and past committee members, along with several invited anglers, came together for a few days' fishing at a non-publicity syndicate.
The banter and inevitable merciless ribbing started immediately as we gathered in the car park before 5am. After a walk around the lake and a draw for names to determine who could choose their preferred swims, we all dispersed to set up and get fishing.Unfortunately, the weather wasn't on our side. With both the temperature and air pressure very high, the fishing was slow. However, Vince Browne put his renowned surface-fishing skills to good use, catching a fantastic 31lb fish off the top on day one and adding a 21lb fish on the second day. Vince put in a tremendous amount of effort, so the results were thoroughly deserved.
On the second day, we paused proceedings for the raffle. A huge thank you to everyone who donated prizes and to all those who purchased tickets. We also enjoyed the obligatory BBQ, sitting together in the shade to enjoy the food, company and, of course, a few tins.

We were also delighted to welcome a representative from Macmillan, who said some lovely words about everything that Stoney and Friends has achieved over the years. It was a fitting reminder of exactly why we continue to get together and do what we do. Returning to our swims, we enjoyed watching England take on Norway in the World Cup. Several, often slightly delayed, cheers could be heard echoing around the lake, making for a late night as we headed into the third day.
As is often the case, many anglers began to drift away early on the final morning. As ever, I stayed until the very last and, completely out of the blue, managed to catch a beautiful 26lb fish to add to the tench I'd caught on day one. It was a great way to round off another hugely successful event, which raised an impressive £2,427 for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Thirty years, more than £720,000 raised, countless friendships formed, memories made and fishing stories shared along the way. It is something everyone involved should be incredibly proud of. I am already look forward to the next one.
A huge thank you once again to everyone who continues to support, donate, organise and help run these events. Without you, none of this would be possible. Finally, a special thank you to our generous supporters: Korda Developments, Gardner Tackle, Munch Baits Official Group, Custom Angling Solutions, The Islands Carp Fishery, Pukka Carp Rigs, Holy Mackerel Fish Oil Co, Holy Mackerel Predator, Yateley Angling Centre and Print and Sign Services Ltd.
Your continued support plays a vital role in helping us raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support, and it is greatly appreciated.
